Kate Bouvatte Posts Fastest 10,000m Time in NAIA this Season, Crushes School RecordPublished by
WALNUT, Calif. Kate Bouvatte of the women's track & field team ran 34:41.07 in the 10,000-meters at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, crushing the school record by 47.3 seconds while qualifying for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships with an "A" standard mark.Bouvatte, who had already qualified for outdoor nationals in the marathon, bested a seven-year old school record set by Morgan Sjogen on March 14, 2008 (35.28.45). In addition, it is the best time in the NAIA this season by 25 seconds."That was probably the single-best performance that I've seen while coaching here," said head coach Steve Scott. "She was so impressive. She and the runner from Eastern Washington were way ahead of the pack and they battled the entire race."Bouvatte and EWU's Sarah Reiter finished nearly 20 seconds ahead of the field. The two took turns in the lead, but Reiter was able to win the race in 34:38.42.A three-time All-American already this season, Bouvatte will have a chance to add two more awards come outdoor nationals, which would give her eight All-America awards on her collegiate resume.Bouvatte was racing on the night the CSUSM Department of Athletics hosted the Sixth Annual Student-Athlete Awards and Hall of Fame Celebration.
