Captains Wrap First Meet of the Season at Home

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport University men's and women's indoor track & field teams opened the 2011-12 season today with the CNU Holiday Open. The Captains hosted the first event of the year, and the team set 20 personal records in the meet.

Senior distance runner Dira Hansen finished with CNU's third best time in the mile the first time she ever raced in the event. She finished in 5:12.70 in Sunday's race. In other distance events, sophomore Erin Rolaf entered CNU's top five in the Women's 3,000m race with a finishing time of 10:41.31. She was followed closely by Jessica McClelland with a time of 10:54.82 for eighth on the all-time list.

The women's team continued to have a solid day as a pair of Captains posted 1.62 meter jumps in the High Jump. Enuma Ezenwa's leap was a personal record at 5-3.75, while Jenna Elliott also reached 1.62 in the event.

In Women's Pole Vault, Lauren Snell cleared 2.75m/9-0.25 and Kelsey Dolinger got over the 2.60m/8-6.25 mark to earn spots in CNU's top ten all time at number eight and nine respectively.

On the men's side, Daulton Teaford was the fasted Captain in the 200m Dash, finishing in 23.18, good for 14th in the meet. Four Captains finished in the Top 15 in the 800 Meter Run, led by Brian Huffman (1:59.60) with a second place effort, followed by Wilson Bever (2:07.27) in eighth, Calvin Stanford (2:11.55) in 11th and Anthony Harris (2:12.03) at 13th.

In the Men's Distance Medley, the Captains entered five teams in the event, with the top team of Scott Teribury, Anthony Harris, Huffman and Christopher Allen finishing in 10:59.37.

The Captains next meet is not until 2012 as CNU will host the Captains Invitational on January 20-21.
