Richard Roethel and Assistant Coach Matt Barreau Earn All-Region Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the Division III Outdoor Track & Field region award winners today and CNU's Richard Roethel and Assistant Coach Matt Barreau were honored.
Roethel, a junior, was selected as the South/Southeast Region Field Athlete of the Year. This is the third consecutive year he has recieved the honor. Roethel is currently tied for first in Division III in the high jump with a mark of 2.11m (6-11) set at the 2012 Colonial Relays. He is second in Division III in the Decathlon with 6,971 points from his win at the Penn Relays.
Roethel was named the Mason-Dixon Conference Field Athlete of the Year after winning the 110m hurdles, high jump and javelin throw at the conference meet.
Barreau was named the Men's Assistant Coach of the Year in his first year coaching the distance squad. Barreau led the distance athletes to 61 of the Captains' 162 points at the Mason-Dixon Championships. All but eight of those distance points were from freshmen or sophomores.
