GUELPH, Ontario - Nov. 27 - Southern Utah's Cameron Levins made the most of his training in Cedar City as a redshirt with the Thunderbird cross country team in the fall to race to a first-place finish at the Canadian Cross Country Championships.

Levins finished the 10k race more than 24 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Robin Watson, crossing the finish line in 29:25.7.  Watson (29:49.0) and third-place finisher Reid Coolsaet (30:04.7) are both considered among the top marathon runners in Canada as Levins also finished well ahead of former NCAA All-American Kip Kangogo (30:22.7) and the 2010 NCAA steeplechase champion during the outdoor season, Matthew Hughes (31:10.7) of the University of Louisville.

Levins had to brave sub-freezing temperatures and a snowy course for the victory and will now return to Cedar City to prepare for the indoor track and field season.  He will likely redshirt during the indoor season as well, allowing for additional training for a breakout season on the NCAA front in 2011-12.
