Brea Garrett opened the competition Saturday with a school record in the hammer as she produced a career best throw of 201-4 (61.38) on her third attempt. The effort by Garrett broke a 14-year-old Aggie record of 200-0 set by Meshell Trotter in 2000.

Texas A&M produced another 18 qualifiers amid stellar performances in advancing individuals to the NCAA Championships through the NCAA West preliminary rounds at John McDonnell Field.

First day of the NCAA West preliminary rounds produced a trio of Aggie field event athletes earning a berth to the NCAA Championships in Eugene with Chase Wolfle in the pole vault, Devin Bogert in the javelin and Olabanji Asekun in the long jump.

Texas A&M's postseason trek continues with the NCAA West preliminary rounds this Thursday through Saturday in Arkansas where the Aggies have 22 men and 22 women entered in the meet. With 44 athletes Texas A&M totals 58 NCAA entries among 33 events.

SEC honors included four awards for Texas A&M athletes as Deon Lendore and Olivia Ekpon were each named SEC Runner of the Year, Shelbi Vaughan was selected co-Field Athlete of the Year and Shamier Little garnered SEC Freshman Runner of the Year.

Two former Aggie sprinters were involved in medal winning relays during the IAAF World Relays. Demetrius Pinder earned a silver medal with the Bahamas in the 4x400 while Simone Facey was part of a bronze medal effort with Jamaica in the 4x200.

The inaugural IAAF World Relays opened to grand performance with a pair of world records while former Texas A&M sprinter Jeneba Tarmoh was a member of the winning United States women's 4x100 relay squad.
