Last weekend marked the 40th anniversary of one of the most important events in college athletics. On June 23, 1972, a law was passed that required schools to provide male and female student with equal opportunities to play sports as well as give all athletes their fair shares of athletic scholarship dollars and provide equal benefits and services (such as facilities, coaching and publicity) to all.
