Georgetown Track and Field Puts Up Fast Times at Florida Relays and Colonial Relays

Published by Georgetown SID on April 3, 2015

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University track & field team split sites this weekend, sending a small contingent of runners to Gainesville, Fla., for the Florida Relays while a larger group traveled to Williamsburg, Va., for the Colonial Relays. The Hoyas have not missed a beat in the quick transition from the indoor season to outdoor and put up a number of strong performances early in the season.

Competing at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, All-Americans Joe White (Clifton, N.J./DePaul Catholic) and Billy Ledder (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga) finished sixth (1:47.57) and seventh (1:47.89), respectively, in the men's 800-meter run. It is a new personal best for Ledder and it is an amazing opening time for White, a freshman, who now owns the 11th spot on Georgetown's all-time list.

All-American Katrina Coogan (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy) led the way for the Hoyas in Williamsburg, the first of a quartet of GU student-athletes among the top eight in the seeded section of the women's 5,000-meter run. Coogan clocked 16:21.46 for the win followed by All-American Madeline Chambers (Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat) in second (16:24.26) and Haley Pierce (Wilmington, Del./Tatnall School) in third (16:27.90). Sarah Cotton (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) rounded out the foursome with a time of 16:56.72, good enough for eighth place
