Women 2nd, men 3rd at Big Sky XC Championships

OGDEN, Utah The Weber State men's and women's cross country team traveled to North Dakota for the Big Sky cross country championships on Saturday. The women were in search of their fourth consecutive championships while the men were looking to make some noise against two of the best teams in the nation. lt;br />The men's team placed third just one point short of beating in-state rival Southern Utah as Northern Arizona won their eighth straight title. Futsum Zienasellassie of NAU was the individual champion covering the 8,000 meter course in 24 minutes 7 seconds. lt;br />On the women's side, the Wildcats dream of a fourth consecutive title ended as Northern Arizona edged them 61-80. Montana State finished third and was followed by Eastern Washington. Sarah Reiter of EWU was the individual champion covering the 5,000 meter course in 17 minutes five seconds. lt;br />The women's team was once again by it's big three as Jamie Stokes, Ellie Child, and Hailey Ricks all earned All-Conference honors. Stokes finished sixth and was followed closely by Ellie Child who finished in seventh place. Ricks finished 10th, for her second consecutive All-Conference honor. lt;br />"NAU ran a really good race but I was proud of our girls," WSU head coach Paul Pilkington. "We hadn't seen them all year so we didn't know how good they were. The freshmen ran well and we don't lose anyone from this year. So the future is bright." lt;br />The men's team was led by the All-Conference performances of Mike Hardy and Trevor Ricks, the Wildcats top two runners all season. Hardy who earlier in the week was fighting the stomach was able to put those issues aside and place fifth. That is the best individual finish by a Wildcat since Seth Pilkington finished third in 2007. Ricks earned All-Conference honors for the second straight season in a row with a ninth place finish. lt;br />Tip Worob was the teams third runner as he finished in 12th followed b
