Hardy, Gregory pick up victories on day one

CHENEY, Wash. The Weber State men's and women's team got off to a fast start at the Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The men's team sits in third place with 37 points while the women's team is 10th with 12 points. lt;br />"Anthony (Gregory) and Mike (Hardy) worked hard to get their wins. Director of track and field Dan Walker said. ""We picked up some points today that we weren't expecting today. We earned a lot of points in the steeplechase and qualified a lot of athletes for the finals in today's preliminary rounds. We are in a good position for the finals tomorrow" lt;br />On the women's side, Emily Morgan broke the school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.66. She has the fourth-fastest qualifying time heading into the finals. Hailey Whetten picked up All-Conference honors in the 10,000 meters placing third in 36:20.65. Ellie Child placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:45.17. Natasha Powell placed seventh in the shot put in a mark of 45-11.75. lt;br /> Tawnie Moore qualified in the 100-meter hurdles after running 14.12 while Kiersten Watkins qualified in the 400-meter hurdles running 1:02.86. lt;br />Jamie Stokes qualified for the final in the 800-meters as she won her heat in a time of 2:11.84. lt;br />On the men's side, Mike Hardy picked up his second career title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while Anthony Gregory soared above the competition in the high jump. Hardy led from start to finish winning in a new Roos Field record time of 8:59.44. Trevor Ricks took second in 9:11.18 and Tyler Robinson was sixth in 9:32.58. Gregory beat Phillip Puccino of Eastern Washington after clearing a personal-best height of 7-01.00. That is the fourth-best mark in school history. lt;br />Jason Kearns placed seventh in the 10,000 meters running 31:38.24. Nathan Dunivan took eighth in the discus with his mark of 160-10. lt;br />Tony Osheku Jr. qualified for the finals in the 2
