CPTC NEW BALANCE TO COMPETE AT ADIDAS GRAND PRIX MEET AT ICAHN STADIUM

June 8, 2011

NEW YORK – Central Park Track Club New Balance will send six athletes to the Adidas Grand Prix Meet at Icahn Stadium in New York City on June 11. The Adidas Grand Prix Meet is part of the prestigious international Diamond League.

CPTC New Balance’s Julius Mutekanga will compete in the men’s 800 meters – B section. Mutekanga recently graduated from Long Island University and has had a breakout season since joining CPTC New Balance. He was second to Australia’s Jeff Riesley at the USATF High Performance meet in Los Angeles, where he ran his PR of 1:46.45.  With that time, Mutekanga is currently the topranked 800m athlete for Uganda.

Joining Mutekanga in the Grand Prix 800m is teammate Dustin Emrani. Emrani was an All-American at American University and now represents Israel on the international scene. Emrani is coming off his best indoor season, winning the elite 800m at the New Balance Armory Collegiate Invitational and setting a new Israeli indoor record.  Emrani’s current PR is 1:46.92.

CPTC New Balance will also send a men’s 4 x 400m relay to the Adidas Grand Prix Meet. The men’s team consists of Adrian Crichlow, El Hadg Mbow, Shomari Taylor and Ashanti Foster-Felder. The meet will air on NBC on June 11 at 4 pm EST.
