County trio grab medals at state meet

JACKSONVILLE --

Hillsborough High's Jeremiah Green, Gaither's Paul Barrett and Max del Monte of Chamberlain have all faced their share of adversity, but when Friday's Class 3A state track and field championships were over, each had a gold medal around their neck.

For Green, he has overcome the death of both parents at a young age to become one of the nation's top athletes in the triple jump. He proved his early-season mark of 50 feet, 6 inches was no fluke when, on his first attempt of the event here, recorded one of 50-3.5 to win by more than two feet.
