The glimmer of the fifteen state championship rings did not outshine the smiles of the recipients recently as the 2012 FHSAA 1A State Track Championship Holy Trinity Boys donned their new "bling".

Head Coach Doug Butler's successful program finally has the hardware to bring it full circle. In it's thirteenth year of existence, the boys have racked up individual and team wins in cross country, as well as a handful of individual wins in track, but the curse of second place was finally broken in 2012.

Reflecting about this year's state track meet in April, Butler commented:  "This was a huge day for the boys program.  We had several top 5 finishes the past few years but could never put it all together. The guys have put in the work for several years and I was very happy for our seniors. This makes four different programs at our school now to win a state title in the past 10 years. I believe this is a great motivator for the boys to go after it again next year."

The win was especially significant for Emon Nasajpour who says that the ring will be a reminder that "hard work pays off."  Known at Holy Trinity more for his soccer skills than running, Nasajpour had waited until his senior year to take up running.  The hard work that is entailed in making state champs can be stressful.  "Getting my ring made me realize that everything I did as a runner and the decisions I made off the track building up to the state meet was what prepared me, as well as what gave me the opportunity of being a state champion under Coach Doug Butler, who believed in me and taught me to race with confidence," he says.  He credits Butler as coach, teacher and mentor.

And now as those seniors run on to bigger and greener pastures, the torch is passed to the underclassmen, some now with bling of their own and others with a promise of what can be theirs.
