Toronto is getting domed track

July 10, 2012
By Michael Doyle

A complete overhaul of Monarch Park Stadium, an east end track and field complex, will provide Torontonians with a year-round running surface. The renovation begins this summer and it’s slated to re-open on Oct. 28.

The stadium will have a state-of-the-art four-lane running surface and a turf multi-purpose field. The track and infield will also be domed during the winter months so that runners and teams can use the entire facility all year long. Musco Sports lights will also be installed for night use. The private company Razor Management Inc. has partnered with the Toronto District School Board in order to complete this exhaustive overhaul.

The 5,000 seat stadium is located adjacent to Monarch Park Collegiate near Danforth Ave. and Coxwell Ave. As a part of the deal between the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and Razor Management, the high school will control the facility during school hours. In the evenings, during the weekends and over the course of the summer, Razor Management will lease out the track and field to various clubs, as well as provide hours for the public to access the facilities at a nominal fee.
