Athletics Canada and the Canadian Athletics Coaching Centre announce Sean Baynton as Manager, National Program Coach Development

Athletics Canada (AC) and the Canadian Athletics Coaching Centre (CACC) are pleased to announce that Sean Baynton has been hired as the Manager, National Program Coach Development. Sean moves into this position following Wes Moerman's recent appointment as Associate Director - Athletics Programming for the University of Alberta Track and Field Program.

Sean's position involves managing and growing coach education programs offered by both AC and the CACC. In addition, he will lead the cross-country and endurance event group as part of the University of Alberta's Athletics Program.

Sean holds a Masters of Education in Coaching Studies from the University of Victoria as well as a Diploma in High-Performance Coaching from the NCI Victoria. He is a Chartered Professional Coach (ChPC) and certified at level 4 in the NCCP and has worked under both Brent Fougner and Wynn Gmitroski. Over the last nine years Sean has worked with three different CIS programs (Victoria, Saskatchewan and Manitoba) and been responsible for multiple medal winning performances. Sean is also engaged in Athletics Canada's national team program, coaching at the 2012 NACAC Championships and observing at the 2006 FISU Cross Country Championships.

Donna Harris, Director, Coach Development with Athletics Canada welcomes the opportunity to work with Sean. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences which will be put to good use in the continued growth and development of Athletics specific coach education projects."

Jim Denison, Director of the Canadian Athletics Coaching Centre, is equally excited about Sean's appointment. "To begin I want to thank Wes Moerman for the outstanding job he did in making this joint position between AC and the CACC such a success. I am confident Sean will build on that success and help both organizations advance coach education in new and exciting ways."

Sean began his new position July 1, 2012 and will formally join the Canadian Athletics Coaching Centre staff in Edmonton July 30. Sean can be reached by phone at (587) 926-3475 or emailsean.baynton@ualberta.ca.
