Speed River Welcomes National Team Physiotherapist Ron O'Hare To Speed River Family

The Speed River Track and Field Club is honoured to welcome physiotherapist Ron O’Hare to their Integrated Support Team. O’Hare brings a diverse skill set to the team through his background as owner/operator of LifesSpring Physiotherapy Clinic in Aurora. O’Hare has represented Canada as a member of seven national teams including the 2009 World Championships in Berlin and is a Sports Physiotherapist Diploma Candidate.

Speed River Head Coach Dave Scott-Thomas commented on O’Hare joining the Speed River team “I was well aware of Ron's reputation before I met him and it was obvious there was a new force on the scene for elite runners in Canada. After we'd been on a national team trip together, it was clear there was a great philosophical and social fit as well. Over the past year we've been collaborating and brainstorming, and it only made sense to have Ron become an official part of our team. Speed River offers world-class support to our athletes and welcomes Ron as a highly skilled therapist and good friend.”

O’Hare joins the club’s extremely strong team that also includes National Team Physiotherapist Brenda Scott-Thomas, IOC sports medicine doctor Dr. Margo Mountjoy, Exercise Physiologist and Performance Nutrition Consultant Dr. Trent Stellingwerff among many others.

“I was more than happy to meet with Ron when he expressed interest in joining 'The River' support crew. I had heard good things from the members of the club that had been treated by him on National team trips or dealt with him at road race/marathon coverage. Now that I have had a chance to work with him on a few occasions it is apparent that we have added another healthy dimension to the Speed River support staff. Ron has a refreshing passion for the sport and a calm, methodical approach to runner assessment and treatment that will help round out our existing support program with the group. I am looking forward to working more with Ron as we take on a new and improved focus on running efficiency and injury prevention in these months leading up to London 2012.“ Speed River Physiotherapist Brenda Scott-Thomas remarked on O’Hare’s addition.

O’Hare echoed Scott-Thomas’ excitement “My vision is to partner and assist Canadian athletes and coaches in pursuing their athletic dreams passionately and with inspiration. The significance of a strong Integrated Support Team has been impressed upon me having been at two World Championships and being surrounded by the best of the best. Speed River has demonstrated a consistent focus on creating an unshakable team environment with a full "buy in" from athlete and staff alike. Their leadership is not just evidenced by results or times but by their commitment to focus on the individual needs of the athlete, in the context of the whole team, therefore building character and ensuring success on and off the track. There is strong leadership and vision in this club and it is highly contagious! I am thrilled and honoured to be a part of history in the making. I've also heard it said amongst the staff and team, "The River always rolls." Well, here we go... time to get to work and get rolling. Thanks Speed River! “

O'Hare has already begun working with the team, conducting biomechanics assessments of many of the clubs stars with Brenda Scott-Thomas and will be traveling with the team this spring and summer to several competitions and training camps.
