Around the globe Speed River athletes put on a terrific showing this weekend, with action both on and off the track.

The club's Tommy Lecours running for the University of Guelph got the weekend off to a smoking start with a scintillating 2:22.32 for the 1000 metres at the Spire D1 Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.  Lecours is currently ranked sixth in the world in the 1000 metres, two spots behind club mate Taylor Milne.  Lecours doubled back the next day with a 4:03.60 mile a performance that ranks him fifth in the Canada.  In other action from Geneva, Rachel Aubry was second in the 800 metres in 2:06.22 and was second in the women's 1000 metres in 2 minutes 47.40 seconds.  Dana Buchanan won the women's 1000 in 2:47.12 and came back to run a 26 second personal best in the 3000 metres to finish second in the 9 minutes 12.08 seconds.  Alex Genest did Buchanan one better winning the men's 3000 in 7:57.46, just ahead of team mate Ross Proudfoot who was second in 7:57.87, an incredible 22 second personal best for the nineteen year old.

Lecours wasn't the only Speed River athlete to move into the top 10 globally.  Hilary Stellingwerff finished third in the women's mile at the Husky Classic in Seattle, with a lifetime best performance of 4 minutes 29.37, a time that ranks her fifth in the world. Stellingwerff's Speed River teammate Malindi Elmore was just behind finishing fifth overall in 4 minutes 32.71 seconds, a performance that ranks her 11th in the world.

Rounding out the on the track action Taylor Milne finished tenth in the prestigious Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games.  Milne had a time of 4 minutes 0.78 seconds.

Incredibly Speed River athletes are now ranked first in the country in the men's mile (Milne), women's mile (Stellingwerff), and women's 3k (Elmore), 2nd in the women's mile (Elmore), 2nd (Genest) and 3rd (Proudfoot) in the men's 3k, and 2nd (Buchanan) and 3rd (Rachel Cliff) in the women's 3k.
