InsideHalton Article: Distance runner sets the pace for Bishop Reding

Ben Preisner has once again powered his way into the innermost sanctum of Ontario high school distance racing.

Stepping things up amidst a significantly more competitive field at last week’s South Regional Track and Field Championships in St. Catharines, the Bishop Reding ninth grader delivered a dual silver lining performance — with second-place finishes in the midget boys 1,500 and 3,000m.

Friday’s 9:25.41 showing in the longer distance shattered his previous record by a whopping 16 seconds, while he shed four seconds off his prior personal best in the 1,500m with a 4:21.49 effort Thursday.

Besting him in both races — coming in misty, slightly humid conditions — was Brampton Centennial’s Justin Moakler.

Now bound for OFSAA for the second time this school year — having qualified in cross country in the fall — Preisner said the reason behind his marked improvements is fairly simple.
