Tiger track competes at Sioux City Relays

MITCHELL, S.D. The Dakota Wesleyan University track and field team competed at the annual Sioux City Relays Friday and Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa, and a handful of Tigers came away from the weekend with new personal bests.

Four DWU athletes recorded times that are in the top 10 in Tiger track and field history. Ariana Arampatzis finished with the second-best mark in outdoor women s pole vault and finished 16th in the event with a vault of 9-feet-one-half inch. Arampatzis also took 17th in the javelin with a mark of 102-4, the fifth-best mark in Tiger track history. Teammate Skylar Forgey recorded the third-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She took 12th in the event in 13:25.49.

Also finishing in the top 25 for the Tiger women was Abby Fossum, who took 17th in the triple jump with a leap of 31-11.5.

On the men s side, Ryan Antaya recorded the seventh-best hammer throw in outdoor history and finished 18th in the event with a toss of 125-03. He also took 15th in the javelin with a mark of 139-02. Freshman Kellan Willet paced Dakota Wesleyan with the team s online individual top-10 finish at the relays. He took ninth in the 5,000-meter run in 16:51.58. Teammate Jeff Sahli took 19th in the same race in 18:25.31.

Paul Apenhorst took 22nd in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.07, and Daniel Porter recorded two top-20 finishes for the Tigers. He took 15th in the triple jump with a leap of 40-0.5, and 17th in the long jump with a mark of 19-11. Isaac Van Essen took 15th in the long jump with a leap of 20-1. The duo was also part of the Tigers 400- and 800-meter relay teams. The 400 relay, which included Porter, Van Essen, Jedd Schlicht and Tyler Volesky, took 15th in 45.79 seconds, and the 800 squad took seventh in 1:35.67.

Dakota Wesleyan is back in action Wednesday and Thursday, April 16-17, at the Red Raider Open, hosted by Northwestern College, in Orange City, Iowa.
