SEWARD, Neb. The Dakota Wesleyan University men s and women s indoor track and field teams competed at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Concordia University Saturday in Seward, Neb.

In her final opportunity to qualify for the NAIA Indoor National Championships, junior Skylar Forgey did just that. The Colome, S.D., native finished third in the women s 1,000-meter run at the event with a time of 3 minutes and 2.20 seconds. The time qualified Forgey for the national meet March 5 to 7 in Geneva, Ohio. She missed qualifying for the event one week ago at the South Dakota State Invitational by just .07 seconds.

Forgey, who broke her own school record in the 1,000 meter on Saturday, will join junior Nicole Court-Menendez (Lewsitson, Maine), who qualified for the indoor nationals in the race walk earlier this season.

The DWU women finished tied for ninth with six points, all coming from Forgey.

On the men s side, junior Daniel Porter (Plattsmouth, Neb.) finished his indoor season with a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 13.47 meters. Porter won the triple jump event three times during the Tigers indoor season.

Freshman runner Lane Tibbs (Kenesaw, Neb.) competed in two events at the indoor championships. He placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:42.43. Tibbs was ninth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:04.95. Sophomore Isaac Van Essen added a ninth-place finish for the Tigers in the long jump with a leap of 6.61 meters.

The DWU men finished 10th in the team standings with 10 points. Doane College swept the GPAC Indoor Championships with 177 points for the men and 229 for the women.
