[Men's Track] Bulldogs set to compete at NAIA Indoor Nationals

The men's track and field team is hoping to accomplish big things as they get set to compete this weekend at the 2015 NAIA Indoor National Championships, which will take place at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The meet will get started on Thursday, March 5th and continue through Saturday, March 7th.

The men's team will have seven individuals being represented at the National Meet in five different events.

The first event will be the 5,000m race. Roderick Bowman will kick things off for the men's team Thursday afternoon in the semifinal of the 5k, which is scheduled to go off at 4:45pm. Last indoor season, Bowman just missed being an All-American by 0.29 seconds, finishing ninth overall in the last year's indoor 5,000m race. If he advances out of the semifinals, Bowman will be racing in the 5k final Saturday afternoon at 3:10pm. He is currently ranked fifteenth on the performance list with a time of 15:05.11.

The next event of the meet to see representation by the Bulldogs is the Distance Medley Relay. The semifinal of the DMR is set to go off Thursday evening at 8:00pm. Comprising of the relay team is Jacob Simmons, Jake Morgenstern, Chad Whitehead, and Joseph Mullen. Earlier this indoor season, those same four individuals set an indoor school record in the DMR. They are currently ranked tenth on the performance list with a time of 10:18.78, and the final is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 3:50pm.

Coming off his race in the DMR, Jacob Simmons will then compete in the mile Friday afternoon. His semifinal race is set to go off at 1:20pm, and the final is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 12:35pm. Simmons currently holds the second best school indoor time for the mile, running a 4:18.44 earlier this indoor season. He is currently ranked thirteenth on the performance list.

The only sprinting event that the Bulldogs will be competing in is the 60m dash. The Bulldogs will have A.J. Hubbard and Edra Gipson competing in the 60m dash in the semifinal Friday afternoon at 3:05pm. Hubbard goes into the meet ranked first in this event with a time of 6.73 and is a favorite to win the 60m dash. Gipson is looking to contribute more points to team as he is ranked twenty-sixth on the performance with a time of 6.94. The finals of the 60m dash will take place Saturday afternoon at 1:25pm.

The final event of the meet that the Bulldogs will take part in is the 3,000m race. Joseph Mullen will compete in the 3,000m race Friday afternoon, with the semifinal set for a 4:45pm start time. Mullen is currently ranked fourth on the performance list with a time of 8:29.91. The final will be set Saturday afternoon at 2:20pm. Much like Simmons, Mullen is looking to come away with two All-American awards in his respective events.
