Here is an event-by-event breakdown of what to look for in these invitational boys field events Saturday at the 49th Arcadia Invitational:

Long Jump (4:40 p.m. PDT Saturday)

Favorite: Lawrence White, Bakersfield Ridgeview. Tied for the national lead with a wind-legal 24-9.5 and is looking to become the fourth athlete at the Arcadia Invitational to soar beyond 25 feet.

Other contenders: Isaiah Holmes, Oakmont. Has adjusted his approach since last year and is primed for a 25-foot jump this season after already leaping a wind-legal 24-3.25.

Sleeper: Michael Mitchell, Tesoro. The Texas Relays winner has leaped a wind-legal 24-1 effort and is one of the most improved jumpers in the state.

Triple Jump (6:30 p.m. PDT Saturday)

Favorite: Dennis Hicks, Bakersfield Liberty. The state leader at 49-3.25 is on the verge of becoming the 12th athlete at the Arcadia Invitational to surpass 50 feet.

Other contenders: Isaiah Holmes, Oakmont. The Stanford Invitational winner is taking on a schedule of four events, but has a career-best 48-3.25.

Sleeper: Jah Strange, Xavier College Prep. With a season-best 47-3, looking to establish himself as a legitimate challenger for a state title.

High Jump (6:30 p.m. PDT Saturday)

Favorite: Darius Carbin, Mt. Pleasant. In a group of 7-foot jumpers, has the edge after winning New Balance National Indoor title and is only focusing on this title instead of his usual three or four events.

Other contenders: Jaron Brooks, Henry Clay (Kentucky) and Sean Lee, Trabuco Hills. Brooks won New Balance Outdoor Nationals last year with a 7-1.5 clearance and Lee, the best sophomore in the country, has cleared 7-0.25.

Sleeper: Justice Summerset, Mountain View Marana (Arizona). Along with Elijah Hughes of JW North, Summerset is another 7-foot jumper in the competition, but the defending Arcadia champion struggled at the NIKE Chandler Rotary Invitational and needs to reaffirm his place among the nation’s elite.

Pole Vault (4:35 p.m. PDT Saturday)

Favorite: Armand Duplantis, Lafayette (Louisiana). Following a 17-8.5 clearance at Texas Relays, the national leader has his sights set on eclipsing the 18-foot barrier outdoors after doing so indoors in February.

Other contenders: Jacob Bowler, Del Oro and Jett Gordon, Marina. Two legitimate challengers for the state title square off with aspirations of clearing 17 feet.

Sleeper: Sean Clarke, Lyman (Florida). Cleared 16-3 to win the Florida Relays and will benefit from stronger competition.

Shot Put (4 p.m. PDT Saturday)

Favorite: Bronson Osborn, Esperanza. The state leader looking to join Jordan Geist and Adrian Piperi nationally with a 71-foot performance.

Other contenders: Isaiah Rogers, Campbell (Georgia) and Nathan Esparza, Amador Valley. Both athletes have surpassed 65 feet, but it will take significant improvements to challenge Osborn.

Sleeper: Jake Arnold, Marina. Looks to build off the momentum of a huge lifetime-best 65-5 at the Beach Cities Invitational.

Discus Throw (5:40 p.m. PDT Saturday)

Favorite: Jacob Wilson, Buchanan. One of the most improved throwers in the state has a career-best 194-1.

Other contenders: Seth Knowlton, Great Oak and Bronson Osborn, Esperanza. Both standouts have thrown at least 192 this year and are both legitimate threats to win.

Sleeper: Ryan Camp, Archer (Georgia). In a competition featuring several California talents, he could prevail after throwing 192 feet March 19 after an effort of 190-4 last year.
