Union Catholic NJ graduate Sydney McLaughlin, a Kentucky signee, became the first individual -- male or female -- in the 15-year history of the Gatorade National Athlete of the Year program to win the award twice. McLaughlin is also a three-time New Jersey Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year and back-to-back Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year honoree, but no athlete in any sport had repeated as overall Gatorade Athlete of the Year until Tuesday.
