Team USA, 2013Published by
The full roster of athletes representing Team USA at the 2013 IAAF World Championships has been finalized. In addition to the nine athletes looking to defend their World championships, there are also 20 individual Olympic medalists from London. But Team USA is also unexpectedly young as 55 of the 135 members are under the age of 25, including three exciting teenagers — Mary Cain (1,500m), Arman Hall (400m) and Ajee Wilson (800m), each of whom is a veteran of The Armory. Those defending their World titles are Lashinda Demus (400m hurdles), Trey Hardee (decathlon), Carmelita Jeter (100m), Dwight Phillips (long jump), Brittney Reese (long jump), Jason Richardson (110m hurdles), Jenny Simpson (1500m), Christian Taylor (triple jump) and Jesse Williams (high jump). No school can match the University of Florida, which is sending nine Gators to Moscow. Of that group, only one — 400m hurdler Kerron Clement — is older than 23. Oregon and Southern Cal each have seven team members. There is only one high school with more than one member of Team USA. High jumper Chaunte Lowe and discus thrower Whitney Ashley are both graduates of J.W. North High in Riverside, Calif. Note that the relay pools are comprised of the athletes tagged as either 4x100m or 4x400m members plus any athlete already on the roster in any other event.
