Armory College Prep Students Announce College DecisionsPublished by
100 New York City students recently announced their colleges of choice at this year’s National College Decision Draft Day event. Hosted by Citibank and the New York College Collective, the event promoted a college-going culture and served as a symbolic deadline for high school seniors to announce their college plans. 10 of the students were members of Armory College Prep, an after school educational program designed to increase college opportunity for underserved New York public school students. Elan Anderson, a student from Frederick Douglass Academy, was in attendance and announced his plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh as a bioengineering major. “I'm excited to get a more rounded understanding of various topics by interacting with a diverse group of people that bring their own opinions to the table,” said Anderson. “After college, I currently hope to pursue a career in research, and hopefully I will be able to explore it along with other options throughout the years through internships and co-op experiences.” Tamera Henry of Saint Barnabas High School announced that she plans to pursue a psychology degree at Rutgers University and is eager to explore new opportunities on her way to becoming a neonatologist. “What I like most about the Armory College Prep program is that everyone there is like a close family,” said Henry. “My counselors make sure that I am up to date with my college deadlines and I receive so much help during the stressful college decision period.” Armory College Prep students at the National College Decision Draft Day:
