Christine Chen Hopes To Guide Brooklyn Tech Back To NY Federation ChampsPublished by
By Justin Gaymon // Photo by EdPix Christine Chen has been patiently waiting for August 24, as the day marked the start of Brooklyn Tech’s cross country season and her first shot at leading her team as the top returning senior. Her mind is set on guiding Brooklyn Tech back to the New York State Federation Championships, which they qualified for last year by finishing fourth at the PSAL City Cross Country Championships. But the Federation Championships are a ways away, taking place on November 14. To get there, Christine’s short-term goals include integrating the younger athletes to the team and guiding them toward working as a cohesive unit. “It’s a little weird transitioning into a leadership role because I’ve gotten used to following directions from the girls who were ahead of me,” said Christine. “There’s some pressure, but overall it’s been a fun experience and I enjoy passing down the advice that was given to me over the years.” When it comes to personal goals, Christine hopes to increasing her weekly mileage, improve her speed and consistently run under 20 minutes in 5,000m races. “I’ve come a long way since my freshman year,” recalled Christine. “I remember not liking to run back then, but my sister was on the team and encouraged me to try it. I didn’t think I would keep with it, but I’ve really grown to love this sport. More news |
