Getting there ... Injury Insight for those seeking it!

Published by

I figured by now I probably would have kicked this thing, and by this thing I mean my IT band injury. It seems though that the more I seem to find out about it, the deeper it gets. First it went from being just the IT band, then the IT band sticking to my quad, then my quad, and now throw a little of my hamstring and glute in the equation. Pretty much I think its a way of my body telling me to rest for the time being

The good thing is that it is getting better. I had some serious sessions with a massage therapist which made some tears come out on the table, and although the pain was rediculous, it was good because I knew that we were working out something that needed to be resolved. It sucks that things have to be more painful and get worse at times, in order to get better. Either way this is the life of a distance runner. As I wrote before, everything out here is brand new to me, including the injuries. When you are a sprinter, you have tweaks in the muscle to severe strains, but rarely do you suffer from over-use injuries. These types of injuries now I am experiencing are as a result of what I think is putting my body through some serious shock in terms of training, but I figure that it is something that we all have to go through. I have been doing a lot of research since getting injured and have found some great articles for anyone who is suffering from the same nagging stuff that I am getting from time-to-run.com. I think if anything, reading up on these is helping me to understand more about my body and I am familiarizing myself with ways to really stretch correctly and treat my body in the way it needs to be treated to ensure I stay healthy.

This article is a great one for the five most common injuries found in distance runners, more along the lines of how to treat them, symptoms and what they exactly are. II'll be on the lookout for other ones, but until then, I hope you all are well and stay healthy!
