Our would-be Olympian soars in a banned sport

This summer youngsters across Lambton County could be watching one of their own on the sports world’s biggest stage.
High jumper Derek Drouin can soar more than seven feet off the ground, and he might just do it in front of a worldwide audience at the 2012 London Olympics.
The Corunna native cleared 2.31 metres (7.57 feet) last weekend, which is the Olympic standard, and is now just one jump away from a ticket to London.
After seeing Drouin don the Canadian colours, some kids will undoubtedly want to emulate the hometown hero with their own Olympic dreams.
