Olympian Donn Cabral Joins NJ*NY Track Club

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The New Jersey New York Track Club has announced that Donn Cabral will join the club in September.  Cabral, a 2012 Olympian in the steeplechase and 2012 graduate of Princeton University, will return to New Jersey after a year in Washington state. He is sponsored by Nike.

Cabral, who finished 8th in the Olympic finals in London, is a native of Glastonbury, Conn.  For the past year he lived and trained in Bellingham, Wash.  During that time he was coached by his high school coach, Peter Oviatt.

"I am so excited to be coming back to the east coast and to be part of this wonderful training group led by such a renowned coach as Coach Gagliano," stated Cabral.  I left Washington like I arrived last year; knowing that Coach Oviatt is a close friend and an outstanding coach.  I just felt like I needed more of a structured group to train with and the east coast was pulling me back.  I have many friends and family here and it is where I feel I can best develop as an athlete."

"Having an athlete like Donn join the club is very exciting for us," offered head coach and club founder Frank Gagliano.  "Donn is an east coast kid  and will fit right in with our group.  I started this club three years ago here in the NJ/NY area because it is such a strong track & field community with an abundance of talent.  We wanted to give these young aspiring athletes a place to live and train that is familiar to them."

Cabral will enjoy training with a strong group of middle and long distance runners that includes Kyle Merber, Russell Brown, Brian Gagnon, Christian Gonzalez, Christian Thompson and fellow steepler Travis Mahoney.  Additionally he will receive expert steeplechase technical coaching from NJ*NY TC assistant coach Tom Nohilly; a two time fourth place finisher at the Olympic Trials in the event.
