Christo Landry One of the Favorites

As weird as it sounds, distance runner Christo Landry’s favorite post-race meal is pizza.

On Labor Day, the 6-foot-1, 145-pound Landry will have plenty of options to satisfy that craving in a city known for its pizza.

Landry is set to take part in the 37th annual Faxon Law New Haven Road Race, which doubles as the 20K national championship. Landry finished in seventh place in 2012 but did not compete here last year.

“After the race I do enjoy my pizza. I don’t know why, but that’s just what I crave after a race,” Landry said. “There’s this Mediterranean, Greek place, not Italian, a couple blocks from the hotel we stay at that serves some really good pizza. So I’ve been going there the past few years.”

As for what comes before the pizza, Landry has put together quite the competitive and impressive racing résumé, especially over the last half year. He’s one of the favorites to win on Monday.

Landry, who resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and graduated from William & Mary in 2008, started things off in April by winning the USA 10-Mile Championship in Washington, his first national title. A month later, he claimed the 25K crown in one hour, 14.18 seconds, tying the national record. Landry continued the streak and won his third straight road title in July at the 10K Championships in Atlanta.
