Teams in The Sunshine State can’t officially race until September 14th but that hasn’t stopped teams statewide from running jamboree meets. Two big traditional preseason races kicked off the season this weekend.

The Red Mule 5k in Brooksville usually draws athletes from the elite programs in the Tampa Bay area like Tampa Jesuit, Plant and Sickles. This year was no different. Chamberlin High senior Mark Parrish won the boys’ race in 15:57. Ocoee High senior Alyssa Burket won the girls’ race in 18:34.  Results

The Space Coast Jamboree in Melbourne on the east coast of the peninsula is frequently used by area teams a control effort but Tyler Davidson from Cocoa Beach High flex his might and dropped his pr 22 seconds to win the boys’ race in 15:42. Mantanza High’s Chritstine Marcano won the girls’ race in 20:07. Results

Over the next two weekends there will undoubtedly be more of these unofficial races and we’ll make sure to find results.
