Girls Regional Rankings, 10/8/15

South

The competition in Texas is heating up and the margins are closing.  Marcus moves into the top spot with a win over Kingwood at the McNeil Invitational.Kingwood was running without one of its top five, but had she run, it would not have been enough to overcome Marcus' 34-point win.

Southeast

Lake Braddock VA finished a distant third to US#4 Naperville North IL and US#13 Edina MN at the Roy Griak Invitational and lost hold of its Southeast #1 ranking from two weeks ago.  Houston TN moved into the top 5 after their win at the Jesse Owens Classic in Alabama.

Midwest

Naperville North IL and Yorkville IL squared off at the Naperville Twilight Invitational on Wednesday night with Naperville North coming out on top 56-73.  Centerville OH moved up a spot after their second place finish at the McQuaid Invitational in New York.

Heartland

The Roy Griak Invitational provided a great deal of clarity in the Heartland with the top four teams all taking part.  Edina MN looks to be pulling away from the pack while Willmar has faltered, unable to shake illnesses and return to the form that carried them to NXN a year ago.

New York

The top two teams remains the same this week.  Shenendehowa and East Aurora move up after strong performances against Monroe-Woodbury at the McQuaid Invitational.

Northeast

La Salle RI moves up to second after its win at the Maine XC Festival of Champions where Eliza Rego, Karina Tavares and Grace Connolly swept the top three spots.  However, it is the development of Audrey O'Neill as a solid number five that propels them the board.  Ridge NJ also moves into the top 5 with their win at the Shore Coaches XC Invitational.

Northwest

After the big weekend two weeks ago with Portland XC and Bob Firman that saw a shakeup in the national rankings, this past weekend was a little quieter.  Mountain View ID leapfrogs Jesuit OR into the No. 3 spot while Bozeman MT debuts in the rankings at No. 5.

Southwest

There is very little that separates the top three teams in the Southwest.  Desert Vista AZ drops only because, despite strong finishes, it is slightly off its bests from earlier in the season.  Air Academy makes their region rankings debut after Katie Rainsberger led her team to a second place team finish at the Desert Twilight with her 16:23 course record.

Arcadia and Davis Senior have emerged as legitimate contenders to make the Division I podium at the state meet and will have a chance to measure themselves against Great Oak in the girls championship race Saturday at the Clovis Invitational. Yucaipa had five runners under 19 minutes at Mt. SAC to win the San Gabriel Valley 1 on 1 Challenge. Kaylee Thompson becomes eligible this week for Saugus and is expected to run at the Santa Clarita Valley Invitational.
