I'm a junior at Norwich Free Academy in Connecticut.   I have been running most of my life having grown up around the sport with my dad being the coach of one of CT's best guy runners of all time, Chad Johnson.  I run the mile indoors and mostly the two mile outdoors.  My 5k pr is 19:43.  My times currently seem pretty bad due to a broken back suffered on Sept 10th of my freshman year.  I'm lucky to be walking so I'm not too upset with my times.

Springer Dominates Yale

In case you haven't seen the results of this weekend's Yale Invitational, Westerly's Andrew Springer has made even more of a case for his being the best high school runner this season.  In the DMR he gets the baton 5 seconds back on the leaders and ends up winning the race.  Now that may not sound like a huge feat for a Footlocker finalist but considering the fact that this race was on pace to set a new nation leading time and the fact that Springer had to run a 4:10.1 in order to do it is unheard of.  And to add to this Andrew came back the following day to run 4:10.61 in the mile to win by 4 seconds over Mark Feigen who had the US #1 1000 coming into the weekend.  Running two miles that fast on back to back days while in high school is a feat that in my opinioin is probably one of the toughest in track.  Springer now is the nation leader in the 1600, mile, 3000 and part of the DMR.  The way Andrew is running it is just a matter of time before he leads the nation in every event from the 1600 to the 5000. However even with all the success he is having this year as opposed to in years past I am not surprised at all.  From freshman year to junior he had skipped cross for soccer but this year he decided to run cross and ended up finishing 2nd in New England in a race that he should have won and 28th at Footlocker finals.  Anybody that knows Springer knew that if he would just quit soccer and run cross that he qould be in the best shape of his life for track and be able to show why he is arguable the best high school runner in the country.
