End of High School Team Cross Country in Oregon
End of High School Team Cross Country in Oregon?
The OSAA is considering reformatting Cross Country to eliminate the team qualifying aspect of the event. Instead a predetermined number of individuals would qualify through a regional or sectional meet.
There will be a pubic meeting held at the OSAA office in Wilsonville for the OSAA Committee to receive public testimony on Monday February 1st at 9:00 am.
Help save the great sport of cross-country and let your voices be heard!

Check out the update story from Dave Devine at DyeStatNW (Oregon's OSAA hears from XC fans, loud and clear). Nice work Dave! |

Hello everyone, I have learned that members of the OSAA have received e-mails that contain vulgar language and really serve no purpose. It is important that everyone concerned with this proposal act in a reasonable and adult manner. There is no need to insult the OSAA members. Instead we need to come together and explain how important our sport is to team building and the general lives of our high school student-athletes. As the saying goes actions speak louder then words so the ultimate show of support you can give is to come on the meeting on Feb. 1st. |
Ben Wornell
Thanks for the Heads-UP. Now lets head out to the meeting. Also I think its important to remember that the says that the committee is "investigating" reformatting the x-c format. Part of the purpose of having a public comment period on it is to hear from the public. Of course, we all know this is a bad idea. However, spamming the committee member's inbox's is also a bad idea. It should be sufficient to sign any online petition and show up at the meeting to voice any concern. The meeting is 9 am 2/1 in Wilsonville: 25200 Southwest Parkway Avenue. So show up if you can. Many bodies will clearly mean more than many signatures or many members of a facebook group. |

Is anyone willing to film/upload the meeting to the site for the people that can't make it? |
Eric D
Kelly, I set up the online petition and will be attending the 2/1 meeting along with a few of my current club teammates. |

Help us out by showing your support on Facebook. A group has been setup for this:
Save Oregon High School Cross Country! Spread the word, get photos up, let's show OSAA how important this is not just to the state of Oregon, but to the whole US. |

Is anyone going to attend their meeting on 2/1? People should show up and make a statement as to how dumb this idea actually is. (There was a recent article about how they were expanding the 6a team sport state spots -- why cut this one?) |

If you look on the first part of the OSAA release, it talks about how they want to let EVERY team in every other team sport into the playoffs. 0-14 soccer team? You're going to state! But cross country? Sorry. |
BradMA
And I thought the MIAA was bad... this is just ridiculous. |

OMG! no worst idea ever!! XC is one of the biggest team sport!! No other sport pushes each team member harder. One person actions effects everyone on the team!! You race to see who has the best team. |

The OSAA is gonna catch hell for this. |

We do live in the state of OREGON correct? This is unfathomable. |

A sad irony that the state that hosts and brought us Nike Team Nationals (now NXN) has cross country teams on the chopping block. |

wow, the worst idea ever. |

I do not believe anyone directly involved with the sport would ever be in favor of this. I feel it is the OSAA wanting to save money. Instead of looking at the fact that 5 teams in 6A leagues qualifying for state playoff in all other team sports (football, basketball, baseball, etc...) as an over expenditure they are just going to cut what they view as a lesser sport. |

Who is actually in favor of this... and why? XC is a team sport, how can the "team" part be cut from the state championship... |
