Elmhurst, Ill – You would expect in a meet with traditional distance powers like New Trier, Prospect, Downers Grove North, and York that the headline would be about some great distance performance.

That was not the case on Thursday evening. Emma Haugen (Lyons Township HS, LaGrange) dominated four events to help boost her school to the team title in this small 6 team meet. Her night started by winning both horizontal jumps. She won the Long Jump with a distance of 16-10 ½. She came back in the Triple Jump winning in 35-5 ½. Currently, that is the 5th longest jump in the state this season. She headed to the track where she won the 55 Hurdles in 9.20.

Her signature event is the High Jump where she won the 3A title last year as a freshman. On Thursday night, she was on. Her steps were down perfect as she cleared 5-6 on her second attempt (IL #2). She made three good attempts at 5-8 but failed to clear.

Other highlights from Thursday night:

  • Mimi Smith (New Trier HS, Winnetka) opened up with a 2:23.3 to give her school a good lead in the 4 x 800 Meter Relay. The race went back and forth in the second and third legs with New Trier, Lyons Township, and Downers Grove North trading the lead. On the anchor leg, Shelby DePriest of Lyons Township pulled away from New Tier’s Kelly Frentzel for the win.
