Drake Relays: April 27-30Just as Alan Webb was about to concede defeat, he went into a victory kick.
Webb and Sara Hall each sprinted past their rivals Tuesday, winning the elite men’s and women’s divisions of the Grand Blue Mile.
“We had no idea how fast we were running,” said Webb, who finished in 4:08.22. “We all just lined up like, ‘Let’s have a good race, have fun.’ ”
Hall, a former Stanford all-American, won her race in 4:45.78.
“I just wanted to stay tucked in during the first part of the race,” she said. “Catch a ride a little bit.”
