Olympian Galen Rupp runs his track career much like he runs a race, with a patient, steady stride. That approach may have him on pace to earn a medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Rupp on Sept. 16 set a new U.S. record in the 10,000 meters, with a blazing 26:48. That beat his previous best by 22 seconds and earned him third place among the world's best at the race in Brussels.
The former Central Catholic High School star seems to be on the rise. He finished ninth and seventh in the 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter races, respectively, this summer in the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, Korea. His 10k finish was a significant improvement over his 13th place finish in the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He was the top American runner in the 10k and the second American behind silver medalist Bernard Lagat in the 5k. |
