Bechard savours surprising silver medal

Cianna Bechard didn't pick up a javelin until midway through the high school track and field season.

She may not put it down for awhile.

The Grade 9 student from Chatham-Kent Secondary School surprised even herself by winning a silver medal in the midget girls' javelin at the OFSAA championship.

“I thought I was going to do OK, but not silver,” said Bechard, 14.
