UMEI jumper leaps to new heights

Derek Toews’ has made tremendous strides in his latest athletic endeavor.

Toews, a Grade 10 student at UMEI, decided just two months ago to take up high jumping, on the weekend he competed at OFSAA in Brockville — finishing in the top 10.

For the lean, 6’2” athlete, high jumping just seemed to be a natural fit.

“He’s an incredible jumper,” said coach Darcy Bults, “in basketball, volleyball and now high jump.”
