Demps to sign with Patriots

According to multiple sources, 2012 Olympic 4x100m silver medalist Jeff Demps will sign a contract to play in the National Football League with the New England Patriots.

A standout sprinter and running back, Demps recently completed his eligibility in both sports at the University of Florida. He announced in early 2012 that he was putting his football career on hold to continue his preparation for the Olympic Games.

Demps won a silver medal in London when he ran a preliminary leg on Team USA’s 4x100m relay.

For the Gators, Demps was a threat both as a running back and a kick returner. In four seasons he racked up 2,951 yards from scrimmage and 24 offensive touchdowns. He also scored one touchdown and averaged 25.0 yards per return on 10 kick returns in 2011. On the track, Demps won the 2010 NCAA Outdoor title in the 100m along with winning three straight NCAA Indoor 60m titles.

After winning an Olympic medal, he now turns his attention to chasing a Super Bowl ring. The Patriots have become one of the more successful franchises in the NFL in recent memory, advancing to five Super Bowls in the last 11 seasons and winning three Vince Lombardi Trophies.
