Guilford cross country coach, runner help save drowning man at Kure Beach

The Guilford College cross country team, with the right people in the right place, helped pull a struggling man from the surf to safety at Kure Beach on Saturday.

Kimberly Cash, an assistant coach for the men's and women's teams, and Andris Goncarovs, the men's team's top runner, were first on the scene to help the man. Cash, in her second season assisting her husband, Danny Cash, is a retired police officer who runs and cycles. She was the first to notice the man, Walters said, and sent a couple of other team members to get lifeguards.
