Tuesdays In Track Town to Commence Tomorrow
EUGENE, Ore. -- The popular "Tuesdays in Track Town" town-hall style
meetings will return to the University of Oregon campus on Tuesday, March 3.
The town halls begin with tomorrow’s gathering themed, "The Vision
for Track Town, USA in 2012”, including more information about the
designation of the Prefontaine Classic as a member of the IAAF’s elite
Diamond League.
Tuesday’s town hall will begin at 7 p.m. in the lobby of the Bowerman
Building. The meeting is free and open to the public and should last around an
hour.
Associate Athletic Director Vin Lananna will address the main topic,
in addition to what the community can look forward to in the present season,
such as details for the upcoming Pacific-10 and U.S. Trials for the World
championships. He will be joined by 2008 NCAA javelin champion Rachel
Yurkovich, 2008 NCAA Decathlon champion Ashton Eaton, and 2008
Olympic Trials participant Lauren Fleshman of the Oregon Track Club
Elite, among other University and OTC competitors.
Also joining the list of speakers will be Tom Jordan, meet director
of the Prefontaine Classic, to talk about the IAAF Diamond League. It was
announced Monday that the Prefontaine Classic would be one of two meets in the
United States to be given Diamond League status in 2010. The Diamond League
will sign the world’s top 15 track and field headliners to contracts for
stops on the circuit and provide increased prize money for each meet.
Ensuing dates for future "Tuesdays in Track Town" will be April 7,
May 5 and June 2.
PARKING: Community members who are intersted in parking
near the Bowerman Building are encouraged to use the metered spaces along 15th
Avenue and Agate and University streets, which are free after 6 p.m.
