The Year of Aisha Praught

EUGENE – It’s a small race in Gent, Belgium, and Aisha Praught is freezing. It’s pouring rain, and it’s windy, and these are probably the worst conditions you could try to run a steeplechase in.

Praught, of Moline, Ill., is devoid of her college team, running one of her first races as a professional athlete during the 2012 summer Euro circuit. The 22-year-old, the youngest of the incoming OTC Elite crew this year, hadn’t yet confirmed her spot on the team—she isn’t the type that has a guaranteed spot before she graduates.
