Combining/Merging Duplicate Athlete Bios on Team sites

For corrections in DyeStat's TFX database, email [email protected]

Let's start this guide by going to your Athlete page from the menu bar of your team page.

Now let's look at each block on the Athletes page.

History
This block shows how many athletes are in the system for each school year. There may already be many athletes iisted here. This is most likely because we regularly input meet results into our database. When our system comes across an new name for a team, a new bio is auto-created. Clicking on any of these years will take you to its roster. Click on All to see every athlete in our database that is associated with this team.

Waiting Approval
Sometimes different media gets attached to an athlete's bio by a user on the site. (See Attaching tutorial) If that user was not an admin of your team site, that attachment goes into a queue pending your approval. The types and quantities of those attachments are listed here. Click the Manage button to navigate to the page where you can accept or remove that media from the corrresponding athlete bio.

Options
Display Linked Bios: Displays results and media from other bios that have been linked together. We will get more into this later in the bio management.
History Default: Choose whether the initial bio page displays only results and content from the current year or all years. The user can change the view themselves but this sets the view that is seen first.

Add New Athlete
Here you can either search our database to add existing athletes to your roster (not used often) or add an athlete by entering the first and last name, gender, and school year(s).

Ahtletes
This shows the athletes on your roster and quantity of Results and Media connected to that bio. The first number is for the current year while the second is for all years. Clicking on a name will take to you the view page of the bio. Clicking on Edit will take you to where you can enter and edit public and private information for that athlete. Let's click on Edit for an athlete for our next step.

The first section you now see is Public Details. Anything entered here will show on the bio page for that athlete. If you don't want something to show, simply leave the field blank. Below this section is an editor box. This is where you can enter in bio information and format it to your liking. A great example of this can be seen on the OTC Elite website with a bio of Jesse Williams. Everything in the Notes block on his bio is coming from that editor box.

The next 5 boxes (Private Details, XC, Indoor, Outdoor, Roads) are there soley for you to store information as a team management tool. The information entered in these boxes does not show anywhere and at this time cannot be exported.

This last box is where you can link the content (results and media) of two bios. One common case where this is utilized is when an athlete transfers to a new school. You, as the admin, may want to show the previous years' results for that athlete to have a more complete picture of that athlete's career. To link the bio, type in the name of the athlete which will bring up a list of all athletes in our system with that name. Select the one you want to link and click Update. Now when viewing the athlete's bio, results and media from both athlete id's will show.
