My son is a high school jumper in Texas. His name is Toddrick Allen. He is a senior (2009) and he competes for Plano East Senior School in Plano, Tx.
He is the defending 5A State High Jump Champion and has set 2 PR's this year. He currently has a personal best of 7'1". He is the #1 ranked jumper in the state and at the time of this posting he is the #5 ranked jumper in the USA. Toddrick has had an outstanding 2009 season to date. So far he is undefeated this year and has swept all of the major meets in Texas (Carl Lewis Indoor Inv., TSU Relays, Jesuit-Scheaner Relays, Texas Relays). He just recently won consecutive district championships. He holds the district and district meet record of 6'10" (9-5A), and he also holds the district, district meet (8-5A) and stadium record (Kimbrough Stadium) of 7'. In 6 meets this year, Todd has cleared 7' twice, 7'1" and 6'10" twice. He also had a clearance of 6'6" on a cold and windy in March. He set the meet record at the Frisco (TX) Regional Qualifiers meet by leaping 6'10". He also holds the school record of 7'1".
He has qualified for the 2009 USATF Junior Nationals and with God's blessing we will be there to compete and try to win a Jr. National Championship . His other goals for this year were to repeat as state champion and he is on pace to acheive that goal, and to finish ranked in the top 5 in the US and he is on pace to acheive this goal also.
(7/3/2009 - Well unfortunately Todd did not not win the state title, but he was blessed to finish second. He ended jumping 6'10" and lost on misses. A great finish to an outstanding season for my son. We were not able to make it to Jr. Nats. due to finances, but he ended up finishing up just outside the top 5 jumps this year (#7) but no complaints about that.)
During the 2008 track season, Toddrick set his previous personal best of 6'10". He was selected as All-Area 1st team. He competed in 2 post season meets. The Great Southwest Track & Field Classic in New Mexico (3rd Place) and the Nike Outdoor Nationals in North Carolina (4th Place). He earned All-American honors by virtue of his finish at the Nike meet.
Toddrick was recruited by quite a few universities and in February, he signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Houston on a track & field scholarship. He really liked the facilities and coaches and since we have family in the Houston area, he felt like it was a really good fit for him.
