Breaking Five: [Remember that?]Well, I haven't said anything in about three months now, even though I've done another few mile races. I still haven't done anything special, though, so nobody get too excited. If memory serves, I've done four 1600 races this season. I barely PR'ed in one, been disgusted at one, had one "eh" kinda race, and was somewhat content at the fourth. My time to beat has now been lowered to 5:04.3, and although not quite what I hoped for, I'll just have to settle with it for now. There's one meet left for me this season, and after an hour of serious pondering and banging my head against a wall, I decided to forego this last oppurtunity to run the mile and opted to run the steeplechase in it's place. Also, if I decide to run any mile races over the Summer, the PR tab on my profile page is, of course, always open for public viewing. Good luck to all during championship season. I'm back, but probably not in the way you'd expect. The problem is..... I still haven't run another mile. Ever since that second meet, I've been the only person with enough balls to do all 16 laps. So, for the last four months, I've been having a personal battle to break... eleven. To sum the season up, here's a short list of my major deuce efforts. 1/13/08 - Dartmouth Relays - 11:18.xx - two mile 1/20/08 - Yale Invy - 10:09.79 - 3k [converts to 10:57.xx 3200] 1/27/08 - Suburban Frosh Champs - 11:07.0 - 3200 [and lost by .2 2/3/08 - Engineer Games - DNF - 5:45 1600 [w-t-f!?!] In conclusion, being the victim of circumstance of New York weather sucks, with 25 mile weeks through the school hallways. By the time February came round, my knees were shot, I still hadn't broken eleven, and I was still too pissed to even blog anymore. But, the glass is always somewhat full, is it not? Outdoor season is here, my mileage is back up to 40-50 mile weeks, and I can honestly say I feel good again. It won't be soon enough till I'm back on the trails.... Good Luck to everyone this season, May your legs be muscular, your heart pure, and your crops bountiful. First Attempt = disaster Quick Summay of what went wrong- Got sick the night before, head cold something awful, and breathing was a pain in the *ss. Also, I tried running a three hundred a couple of hours before my race.. unfortunatly, this was the highlight of my night (46-). It was just one of those races where you really want to go faster, your legs can take it, but you just can't. Blah. Time was a 519, 12 whole seconds off my PR. Got some film of it, so I'm fixing everything I can, but sometimes technique just isn't enough I guess. I also have pictures of the mile race and a video of the SMR, so I'll upload them eventually.. hopefully soon. Thanks for all the positive support on the first blog, and the next one should be January 13, when Dartmouth is past. Andrew Last Updated: Dec 19 2007, 08:35 PM Comments (4) Breaking Five (12/17/07)
Okay, so this is my first ever blog, don't really know what I'm doing, so I'm going to have a little series where I throw my thoughts around regarding my indoor track season. Here's something most of have tried before, so I'm recording my attempts to break the five minute barrier. Here's the backround...I'm a freshman from NY, and this is my second season working on lowering my mile. I'll be specializing in the deuce, but I'm going to try to qualify for the Dartmouth meet in Januray by way of the 16. My best so far is a 507.6, so I'm not so far off, but I don't know my physical shape at the moment... That out of the way, here we go. Next meet is tomorrow, at Hudon Valley, unfortunatly a pretty slow track. Dartmouth takes about the top 50, which is why I need to get the time down..for insurance. We'll how things go tomorrow I guess, and I'll probably make a new blog and upload pictures if I remember a camera.. Andrew Last Updated: Dec 17 2007, 08:04 PM Comments (4) |
