Point Grey men defend national title; Women finish second at Jericho

Vancouver- Kelly Wiebe led the Point Grey men to their third consecutive national title on Saturday at the Canadian Cross Country Championships at Jericho Beach Park in Vancouver. Point Grey finished in first in the Senior Men’s 10m race with a total of 20 points, ahead of Physi-Kult Kingston (31 points) and Laval University (41 points). Wiebe finished in second place behind fellow Vancouver runner Chris Winter on a frigid but sunny day in Vancouver. His time of 32:21 was 4 seconds back of Winter and 12 seconds ahead of third-place finished Matt Johnson of the University of Regina. Lucas Bruchet was Point Grey’s second finisher on the day, placing 10th in a time of 32:55. Other notable finishers for Point Grey were Theo Hunt in 18th and Kevin Friesen in 20th.

Amelie de Fenoyl was the top Point Grey woman in the senior women’s 8km race at the Canadian XC Championships in a time of 30:56, good enough for 20th place. The Point Grey women placed 2nd (25 points) behind UCAC, who took the title with 11 points. Rhiannon Evans placed 29th and Kirsten Lee was 48th overall. Other Point Grey finishers were: Sarah Huber (54th) and Nelly Amenyogbe (58th). Rachel Hannah of University of Toronto TC won the race in a time of 28:50.
