Our first stop for the Hoka One One Top Trails running show is Eugene, OR.  Eugene is often referred to as “Track Town USA,” because of its rich running history, community and its numerous races and high-caliber track meets.  The University of Oregon’s “Historic Hayward Field” has been home to many of Track and Field’s most famous and influential athletes and pioneers of the sport.  Today, Eugene continues to serve as a training ground for many professional runners and training groups.  Facilitating Eugene’s running culture is it’s amazing system of interconnected trails.  Beginning with Steve Prefontaine’s vision in the 1970’s to create a system of trails similar to ones he had seen in Scandinavia, Eugene has developed into a place where runners can navigate much of the city without leaving a pedestrian trail for more than a few hundred feet at a time.

In Eugene, hosts Matt Barnhart and Ian Terpin meet with professional Hoka runner Charlotte Browning to explore one of the most picturesque trail systems in the city- the Ridgeline Trail.  The Ridgeline trial is a system of rocky single-track trails leading to the top of Spencer’s Butte- a prominent landmark on the Southern Edge of Eugene.  Matt and Ian also visit some of Eugene’s local hot-spots (Track Town Pizza, and Wild Duck Cafe) and talk to some of Eugene’s local running experts, including Bob Coll (Owner, Eugene Running Company), Peter Thompson (International Coach), and Tom Heinonen (Former Oregon Women’s XC/Track Coach).
