Just in time for the Boston Marathon, there’s a race to open new footwear flagship stores in the Back Bay.

Vibram, an Italian firm with its U.S. headquarters in Concord, will open the company’s first U.S. store dedicated to its “minimalist” glove-style sports shoe known as FiveFingers at 292 Newbury St. this Saturday.

“The Boston Marathon is important to us and opening the store that weekend is symbolic,” said Georgia Shaw, Vibram’s marketing manager.
