OJAI -- Geno Arthur kept the run of Ventura County titles in the Pacific View League.

Sarah Baxter and her Simi Valley teammates continued to run in a league all by themselves.

Baxter repeated as girls' champion in 17 minutes, 41.07 seconds for the Pioneers, who had five athletes finish in the top 10 to produce a 25-point effort and crush the 3-mile Lake Casitas course record with a mark of 91:14, an improvement of more than two minutes from last year's victorious performance to handle runner-up Thousand Oaks (81), which was led by Caitlin Turner's 13th-place effort (19:03.02).

Following three consecutive boys' championships by Camarillo's Heyden Wooff, Rio Mesa's Arthur secured the crown Friday, covering the course in 15:25.54 for the seventh-place Spartans (162), with Oak Park (107) edging Thousand Oaks (131) for the title.

"I'm definitely not in the class of Heyden Wooff, I'll put that out there right now. I'm not going to compare myself to a guy who has won it three times, but to be able to race against him and Camarillo, that experience definitely had me prepared," Arthur said. "With it being my third time in the varsity race, I knew there were guys who were going to be fast. It's so taxing to be in a race with this much talent, but you just take what the course gives you and when you get to the third mile, you just have to kick it in with everything you have left. This is definitely the pinnacle of what I have been able to do."

Simi Valley didn't need to rely on any late surges to hold off the competition, with Baxter pulling away from runner-up Brianne Holland (18:07.91) of Royal, Ventura's Hannah Kirkegaard (18:08.35) and eighth-place Monika Gyalay of Moorpark (18:26.15) following a conservative first mile.

Erika Barr (18:15.38), Karla Vernola (18:16.51) and Sarah Riggs (18:18.44) placed fourth through sixth for Simi Valley, which had Rachel Vinas (18:42.89) finish ninth for a 61-second gap among its top five runners.

"This group is so well collected and so relaxed and we all respect one another, so there's just a great bond on and off the course," Vernola said. "As long as everyone continues to put in the work and stays focused, great things are going to happen."

Following a school-record performance that secured the grand sweepstakes championship Oct. 22 at the 64th annual Mount SAC Invitational, Simi Valley avoided a letdown by methodically wearing down the other 17 teams in the field.

"We worked really hard this week, so personally, I didn't want to go out too fast. Our team is really smart about that," Barr said. "Last year, I was new to varsity and I didn't know as much, but as a team, we're much more mature this season when it comes to preparing for races. Mount SAC was great, but it's behind us now and we have to focus on the next race because we know we still have a long way to go."

Simi Valley's success wasn't reserved for just the varsity level, with Charlotte Utash winning the freshman/sophomore race for the victorious Pioneers and Courtney Korven capturing the junior varsity crown to lead another championship effort.

"To think how many freshmen and sophomores we have running on varsity and to still win at all three levels is just amazing," Simi Valley coach Roger Evans said. "I was so proud of how they came out and handled themselves after Mount SAC. They were so composed and so smooth. They went out there and it was business as usual."

Royal (142), Newbury Park (172) and Ventura (177) rounded out the top five girls' teams, with Westlake's Jenny Giguere (18:23.27) taking eighth and teammate Nicki Ghazarian (18:50.90) placing 11th, La Reina's Ariana Brajkovich (18:47.77) finishing 10th and Royal's Sophie Mateu (18:56.17) recording a 12th-place finish.

Sahm Bazargan (15:46.31) led champion Oak Park with a fourth-place finish and Sho Kodera's 14th-place result (16:11.87) led runner-up Thousand Oaks.

Westlake's Mikey Giguere (15:52.89) took sixth and teammate Rocky Peterson (16:05.74) finished 11th, with Camarillo's Cole Couchman (15:57.94) and teammate Joel Gonzalez (16:02.24) placing seventh and eighth.

Simi Valley's Frankie Moncada (16:02.82) was ninth and Moorpark's Teerth Patel (16:03.63) placed 10th, along with teammates Michael Picchini (16:06.55) and Tamas Gyalay (16:06.77) in 12th and 13th.
