The email correspondence with Chad Trammell before my first Atlas race went something like this. Max: I’m injured for UROC. Are you racing the Atlas Race this weekend? I’m thinking about it. Can I still get an entry? ...

First off, I am incredibly sore from that marathon. I thought with all the ultras, long runs and quad beating I’ve done the past two years that a marathon would feel relatively short and recovery would be faster. Huh Uh! That pace on that surface...

Run-packing trip to the Trinity Alps in Northern California. Three days of beautiful scenery, jagged granite peaks, and serene mountain lakes.

Who I Am...

I live in Bend, OR with my understanding wife and two wild children. I spend most of my time running around on trails, working as the footwear buyer at Footzone, and doing some coaching on the side. Through running and my generous sponsors Montrail, Mountain Hardwear, Swiftwick, GU Energy, Flora Health, Polar, Rudy Project I've been able to run some amazing races and in some beautiful locations around the world. You can follow all that stuff here on my blog or at twitter.com/MaxKingOR or facebook.com/max.king.9828.

Working with the running community there are a few things that really make it all worth it. Working with high school kids at Steens Mtn Running Camp during the summer, coaching the Footzone Tuesday Performance Group, and coaching middle school kids during the USATF Junior Olympic season helps remind me of the positive benefit that exercise, hard-work, and discipline can have. I make it a goal to make physical activity a fun and meaningful endeavor for folks I get to coach.
